I don't have a picture to go with this entry since I don't think it is appropriate to post pictures of us in our underwear ;-)
Well, the saga begins after the July 4th weekend, as Phoenix' temperature begins to rise up and up and up to well past 110 degrees on most days. The Weather channel begins to issue severe heat warnings and Frank and I notice that our downstairs thermostat doesn't seem to be dropping below 83 even though it is set for 81. Hmm, how strange and annoying that our a/c seems to be running non stop yet we feel hot.
Sooo skip past several days of debating the cause and cost of having a company come out and check on it, not to mention the illogical debate between the one company with the really nice secretary versus the more expensive company that would actually do something for the money with the factoring in of which commercial jingle was less annoying to have stuck in your head. For those of you in the valley, it came down to Parker and Sons versus Precision so the Precision jingle was stuck in my head for days ("make the precision decision....").
Ok, so the dude comes out last Saturday and the final verdict is......duh duh DUH duh....you need a new a/c unit. YOu can spend $2200 and just replace the condensor with only 1 year warranty OR you can spend $5000 for a whole new unit with a 10 year warranty. So we dusted off the credit card that will not be paid off soon because the balance is too high and bit the bullet. (AIGHHH, I have never been this close to maxing out a credit card EVER!!!)
and the dude says we can get that for you maybe by Wed or Thurs, we'll call you on Monday to set it up.
Jump to Monday (with a REALLY hot day on Sunday because our church building's a/c also does not work well). the dude calls and says we can get it to you Thurs. am. We asked for pm because I only work in the mornings and that way I wouldn't have to take the day off. Hmm, no he says, our guys don't want to be in the 140 degree attic so we need am. Fine. I contact the clinic who was wonderfully able to reschedule all my Thurs am kids for Thurs pm. (because every time I asked the dude said -'should only take about 4 hours or so').
Jump to Wed pm, I've just left work and am checking my voice mail. What's this? A message from Frank and the a/c dude. The unit won't be arriving until after lunch on Thurs can we reschedule to Fri am? I am almost enraged at this point because I HATE rescheduling with clients especially at such short notice. I speak with the dude and explain that would not be feasible and his guys will just have to deal with Thurs pm. I call the clinic back and RESCHEDULE Thurs pm kids back to am.
Jump to Thurs am. I get a phone call at 7am from the a/c dude. He needs to have another guy come out and drain the freon from the unit we are replacing and he's in the area. Promises he can be there and done by 8am. Good since I have to leave for work (now that I'm back on the am schedule). Fine the guy gets there and tries to convince me that it would be fine if I'm not there since he's just going to be outside. No go, I tell him, get your butt in gear and get it done by 8am. Which he does.
La-di-dah, I come home from work about 10:30am (short day) and think, hmm our upstairs a/c works, I'll hang out there. At about 11 I start to notice that it is really hot upstairs. I check the thermostat---90!! What? had our upstairs a/c gone out too? I went outside and checked, hmm suspicous, it looks like the freon dude had worked on the wrong unit. I call the a/c company. After much heated words, she says she'll call me back
(OK< this post is getting really long-sorry but it gets worse)
The freon dude comes back to our house at about noon and says I can put freon back in but all I have is used freon which may ruin your system or you can just stick it out until the tech comes and puts in new freon. Fine...
the a/c tech comes out at about 1pm (which is when I was expecting the a/c install to happen too), puts in new freon and whew, we can breathe in our now 95 degree house now. I ask when the new a/c unit is coming and the tech dude says: "I don't know, I'm just putting in freon". Great. Spend the next two hours sitting in front of the fan, working on the computer until Frank comes home. Hi, honey how was your day? Mine was crappy, let me fill you in. ;-)
So Frank takes over the waiting while I head BACK to work to see a client who could reschedule back to Thur am.
I get home about 5pm and find out the a/c guys are working on our new unit but they had just gotten there. Whew, our house seems hot.
Frank keeps checking on the a/c dudes and finds out "whoops" they turned off the upstairs unit AGAIN because that was the info they had. After much heated discussion and debate, Frank makes the tech "see the light while keeping his head attached" and the dude is extremely grateful because if Frank hadn't caught it, he could have been killed from the freon hitting his face as he took out the air handler (all new terms for me).
FINALLY about 8pm our house starts to cool off as the upstairs a/c unit is turned back on and trying to cool down ALL of the 100 degree air in the house.
{Ok, anyone who knows us, knows that bedtime in our house is anywhere between 7pm and 9pm usually} Well at about 11:00pm, the tech says ok, just need some paperwork completed, it will take about 20 mins then we are done.
Yes! 7 hours later, close to midnight we finally have a cool house and a/c dudes gone!
Whew!!! What an adventure. But hey, Frank gets a new a/c unit for his birthday ;-)
{Nah, really I got him some presents and we are going out to try and eat rattlesnake on Sat night at the Hole in the Wall restaurant}
Thanks for reading my really long vent, but I feel better now!
